The Pantheon, originally a temple dedicated to all the gods of Ancient Rome and later rebuilt by Emperor Hadrian around 126 AD, is one of the most impressive Roman buildings and an architectural marvel of its time. Its magnificent dome is still the world’s largest unreinforced dome, with a central oculus in the middle open to the sky. Since the 7th century the Pantheon has been used as a Roman Catholic church, known popularly as “Santa Maria della Rotonda.”
